Why Lucid Dream?

The question of WHY is the most basic of questions when it comes to anything that we do in life. Its one of those questions that continues to expand any topic when we keep asking yourself over and over again. Eventually if asked enough we get to the underlying WHY or desire that we haven’t understood before.

When it comes to exploring consciousness Its important to ask ourselves the question of WHY. The reason for this is because if you don’t fully understand WHY you are seeking whatever it is you are, then you don’t understand the basic reason behind what you’re doing. If you can answer the question of WHY you are trying to have Out of Body Experiences, Lucid Dream, or whatever it is you are trying to do, then you can focus your attention on what it is you are trying to do.

The answer to the question of why may be dynamic and change over time. Just because you have something in mind as to WHY you are doing whatever it is you are doing now, doesn’t mean that as you learn and grow, you’re WHY won’t change. It surely will. Our WHY’s in life and WHY that we do things change over time as we change our priorities.

When I first started to explore lucid dreaming, I did it because it was a form of entertainment. My WHY would have been at this time, to have fun or to escape ordinary life. As I learned more about lucid dreaming, I started to realize that there was more to the dream world than I had expected. The Lucid Dream state became a way for me to communicate to a more profound self, and understand more of that world. My WHY transitioned from a way of escape to a way to become more whole as a person.

Having you’re why gives you direction and a way to focus your attention. With Lucid Dreaming and Out of Body Experiences having a focuses attention is key to success. Most of the skills needed to obtain lucidity in an altered state require you to pay attention to sensations, understand how to use those sensations to improve your ability to recognize the states of consciousness you are in and to control how you interact with those states. This requires focus. Knowing your WHY will again allow you to focus.

I would also suggest that when you ask yourself WHY you don’t just focus on superficial answers that may arise. If on the surface your WHY is to obtain special abilities or powers, and the ultimate underlying reason is that you feel your life is lacking excitement or fulfillment, maybe you should realign your goals to learn more about yourself in hopes to improve on your sense of self and who you are. You are not alone when it comes to misaligned reasons or WHYs; it takes time and energy to understand that you have a solid goal in mind, and to fully understand WHY.

Before attempting an Out of Body state, I would often focus on the idea of obtaining knowledge. I wanted to understand all, see the underlying truth in all things. My experiences in my Out of Body states with this goal in mind would often end in confusion. After some time my goal changed from obtaining knowledge to simply listening to the experience itself rather than gaining something from it. The WHY that rested underneath the goal of listening was to simply be in the flow with the experience. This new goal and understanding the why has greatly improved the overall encounter.

Understanding your own WHY as you are either just starting your practice out or continuing forward from years of experience, is one of the basic steps required to produce any substantial results. Understanding WHY gives you a basic foundation for the journey that lies ahead of you. What is your WHY?
